Vignettes | The pieces in both Vignettes and Scrips series combine the considered recordings of the artist's thoughts with the tumultuous influence, invoked in the making process, of emotion and instinct. While they are all, in a sense, records of self, they also inevitably document the artist's surroundings, cultural roots, and reasoning journey. Each step, from painting to pulp manipulation to printmaking, incorporates new methods of relating to and translating personal experience and impetus into a visual language. Their making is grounded in the desire to give and share which, at its best, the act of communication embodies.

The process constraints group these Vignettes together. Their size is derived from the deckle box into which pulp is dispersed, while their pigmentation and translucency stem from the fluid nature of paper formation, where the residual pulp from one sheet becomes the foundation of the next. Carved in advance of this series, the artist's relief blocks preexist their application on paper as symbols created by Thaïs. While inseparable from their origin, the vibrant stamped block-prints are fully work-contextual.
